Author Walter Mosley To Speak In October, Libraries Plan Film, Scholarly Discussions
Walter Mosley, the highly acclaimed mystery writer, novelist and social commentator, is the focus of several events planned by the libraries of the Virginia Peninsula Literary Consortium beginning in June, leading up to his personal appearance in October.
Mosley’s speech is at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Christopher Newport University’s Ferguson Center for the Arts and is free, but tickets are required and will be available in September.
Best known for his mysteries involving private investigator Easy Rawlins and his first novel, “Devil in a Blue Dress,” Mosley’s essays, nonfiction and short fiction depict the black experience and examine ways in which the African-American perspective can contribute to political, economic and social progress in America. Mosley will speak on his life and writings under the title, “The Literary Life.”
Free tickets for the author talk, question-and-answer session and book-signing are available beginning Sept. 15 at the sponsoring libraries of the Virginia Peninsula Literary Consortium, which consists of the public libraries of Newport News, Hampton, Poquoson and York County and the academic libraries of Christopher Newport University, Hampton University and Thomas Nelson Community College.
