Ches.-Va. Beach Alumnae Deltas Award 49 Students
Chesapeake, Va.—Forty-nine senior honor graduates attending schools in Chesapeake and Virginia Beach were recently recognized by the Chesapeake-Virginia Beach Alumnae Chapter Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for their academic achievements during the Chapter’s May Week Celebration.
Chesapeake City Manager William Harrell was keynote speaker for the event with the theme “Perspective and Directives: The Next Four Years.” Cynthia Corbett and Wanda Watters were co-chairs for the event that was attended by more than 165 honorees, parents, and sorority members.
The following young ladies were recognized and presented with a gift and certificate of accomplishment: Bayside High School: Kelechi Akamiro, Mercedes Barnes, Amaris Gardner, Meagan Hagans; Shamika Hart, Monique Hinds, Chaelessa Murphy, Caylisa Parker, Monique Russell, Chanel Sessoms, Sakia Tolliver, and Ashleigh Watters; Deep Creek High School: Machelle Butts, Necole Cuffee, Natasha Fuhlendorf, Nikisha Matthews, and Adrina Skyles; Grassfield High School: Zaniya Sample-Anderson; Great Bridge High School: Casey Caesar, Jarra Goodridge, Alyssa Hawkins, Brooke Lathon, Brianna Nelson, Monique Nwala, and Angelica Wilson.
Also, Green Run High School: Kristen Walker; Indian River High School: Whitney Anderson, Damia Gonzalez, Cierra Jones, Tresurea Proctor, Sydney Ragland, and Amber White; Kempsville High School, Khadijah Anderson; Landstown High School: Ashley Best, Mary Brown, Ebony Burns, Nicquiya Falu, Jasmine Grace, Chantell Holloman, Cierra McCee, and Denna Northam; Oscar Smith High School: Charnelle Cook, Angel Eason, Jerenda Manley, and Danielle Roberts.
Also, Princess Anne High School: Roneshia Owens, and Stephanie Taylor; and Salem High School: LaJoya Dailey, and Nikia Robinson.
During the event, two $500 book stipends were presented to Charnelle Cook from Oscar Smith High School and Chelsey Owens from Indian River High School; Chapter President Mary Williams gave remarks; Yvonne T. Baker, the chapter’s 2007-2009 Miss Jabberwock and current scholarship recipient, shared “words of wisdom”; and the Boys Choir of Hampton Roads, under the direction of Alonzo Lawrence and accompanied on the piano by Geraldine Boone, provided musical selections.
