Chesapeake Les Gemmes Hosts The 19th Conclave

The Chesapeake Chapter of Les Gemmes, Inc. hosted the 19th National Conclave recently at the Cavalier Hotel in Virginia Beach. The weekend theme was “Crusin’ Up The HEARTY (Health, Education, Arts, Recruitment, Technology, Youth) Scale On a Fantastic Voyage.” There were about two hundred women with some of their family members in attendance from Georgia, Indiana, Maryland, Maryland, North Carolina, Tennessee, Washington, D.C. and various localities in Virginia,
The Thursday night President’s Reception was in honor of Evelyn West, National President. She was serenaded by Larry Ross of Second Chance. Four Silver Gemmes who celebrated their twenty-fifth year with Les Gemmes were honored at the Silver Gemmes Breakfast with Joyce Gilliam Brown as the speaker.
The Chesapeake Les Gemmes performed a special dance, Jazzy Ladies choreographed by Bernice Vaughan during the Meet and Greet Social on Friday night. Saturday night’s Black Tie Dinner and Dance entertainment was by the band, N-Tregue. Other weekend highlights included a scholarship given to a high school senior, awards given to individual chapters, and a community donation given to CHIP (Chesapeake Health Improvement Program). Chesapeake City Councilwoman, Dr. Ella Ward was the guest speaker for the awards program.
Additional activities included a memorial service, rededication service, Sunday Worship Service with Minister Evangeline Davis as the speaker and installation of new national officers. Vendors displayed a variety of merchandise including clothing, note cards, jewelry and cosmetics. The men in attendance were entertained by the Fantomes.
The Chesapeake Les Gemmes hostesses were Luella Harrell, president; Eleanor Harris, Ruth Horn, Eunice Johnson, ElDenna Jones, Diertra Jones, Yvonne Murphy, Jacqueline Pope, Inez Randolph, Bernice Vaughan and Raynell Williams.
