Cincinnati To Host National NAACP
CINCINNATI, OHIO-—About 8,000 people are expected to attend the 99th annual NAACP meeting in Cincinnati, which will be held July 12-17 and feature an array of activities including appearances by both presumed presidential candidates, a job fair, commerce expos and other activities.
The convention is expected to add about $4 million to Cincinnati’s economy. The largest gathering of its kind nationwide, the six-day meeting will also include a financial empowerment seminar titled, Banking on a Changed Mind.
“All roads lead to Cincinnati this summer and we are excited and honored to have the hosting duties, said Cincinnati NAACP Branch President Christopher Smitherman.
Added Cincinnati Mayor Mark Mallory, “We’ll be rolling out the red carpet to ensure that visitors will have a world class experience that they will not soon forget.”
The financial empowerment seminar will include renowned financial experts, who will discuss hot topics such as wealth-creation-and maintenance, home ownership, retirement planning, and entrepreneurship.
“Economic empowerment is a civil rights issue too,” said NAACP Interim President & CEO Dennis Courtland Hayes. “Through the financial empowerment tour, participants will be given tools and strategies that will allow them to take charge of their situation so they can meet or exceed their financial goals. Financially empowered people create stronger, sustainable communities with higher qualities of life--and that is our goal.”
Starbucks will sponsor the financial seminar which is free, but seating is limited. To register for the financial seminar which includes a continental breakfast, lunch and a 12-month subscription to Black Enterprise, please go to www.naacp.or/programs/economic or phone 410-580-5770.
