Mrs. Eloise Carter 101 Years Young
Mrs. Eloise Harriet Kenny Carter, a Geneva, N.Y. native, reached the tender age of 101 on May l at the Riverside Convalescent Center, Old Denbigh Boulevard, Newport News. The staff and family attended an afternoon and late afternoon cake, ice cream, balloons and cards celebration.
From a family of 11 siblings, she has two remaining brothers, Charles, age 90 and John, age 93 and one sister. She was educated in the public schools of Geneva.
She was the bride of the late Angress Carter for 33 years. From this union were born Joanne, Ernest, Beulah, Herman and Ida. They became Hamptonians in 1942. She is the grandmother of 11; great grandmother of 13 and great-great grandmother of 9, all of whom live in either Virginia. Florida, Texas or Montreal, Canada.
Previously, Mrs. Carter was employed in the College Book Store at Hampton University later transferring to the Housekeeping Department as one of the supervisors, retiring in the late 70’s. The Carters are active members of St. Cyprians Episcopal Church where the newly appointed rector is the Rev. Sarah D. Odderstol.
