Free African American Men’s Conference Returns To Norfolk
NORFOLK, Va. – Gerald Tyler, 62, attended last year’s African-American Men’s Health Forum and is excited about attending this year’s April 19 event. “I thank God I’m in good health,” said Tyler. “I want to continue living,” he said, “by being proactive.”
Tyler said that health screenings could provide “important early indicators of things that might be going south.”
The American Cancer Society agrees and as a result has collaborated with many local community organizations to offer the third annual health forum targeted at understanding African American men's health. The African American Men's Health Forum is a daylong event to help men understand and take proactive roles in African American men's health topics, including cancer, cardiovascular disease and diabetes. This year's conference will be from 8:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 19 at the Norfolk Waterside Marriott Hotel in Norfolk, Va. Registration and health screenings will be open from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. with the program continuing throughout the afternoon.
