“Freedom Rose” Flower
To Be Named In Honor
Of Mrs. Rosa Parks
This year, civil rights pioneer Rosa Parks will have a flower named after her, like other famous women such as Lady Bird Johnson, Princess Diana and Barbara Bush.

Rosa Parks
It’s called a blood-red rose—to be specific, a Freedom rose. The tea rose is being sold online through Organicstyle.com and through specialty floral shops in metro Atlanta.
Ten percent of the proceeds will go to the Rosa and Raymond Parks Institute for Self Development in Detroit.
Created by the German grower Rosen Tantau and online producer Organic Style, the new blood red rose marks the date 52 years ago when Parks became a civil rights pioneer.
Parks, a seamstress and NAACP branch secretary, made history when she refused to give up her seat on a bus to a white man during the segregation era. Before her death several years ago, songs, awards, and even a few buildings around the nation were named in her honor.
