Grant Will Fund Five Summer Tech Camps For Portsmouth Teens
Thanks to a recent $5 million Department of Labor grant, teenagers, ages 16 to 18, can attend one of five summer tech camps which will be held at the Tri-Cities Higher Education Center in Portsmouth from July 14 to Aug. 8.
It is sponsored by the Southeastern Virginia Partnership for Regional Transformation (SEVA-PORT), which recently received funding to build, strengthen, and expand the modeling and simulation talent pool. Tidewater Community College and the Urban League of Hampton Roads are also sponsors.
Designed for students who are interested in careers in technology, the three camps will offer classes in simulation and gaming, web design or networking, and modeling.
Meanwhile, the Urban League will hold Digipen Project Fun workshops during the weeks of July 21 - Aug. 15. Students will design their own video games during this two week session. These camps are free but there are eligibility guidelines. To learn more, please phone Faith McArdle or Megan Robinson at Opportunity Inc. (757) 314-237.
