Jena-Six Teen Will Use Funds for School

JENA, LA.—A Jena Six teen will use the defense funds he received to attend a college-prep class at a boarding school in Connecticut.
Jesse Beard, who has been living with his attorney in New York after being released on house arrest earlier this month, received funds from many well-known personalities, including rocker David Bowie, who gave $10,000.
“Beard is an engaging young man, with none of the negative qualities attributed to him by certain media reports,” said attorney Alan Howard, who has put Beard to work as an intern at his firm, while he lives with him.
The funds were raised by Attorney C. David Utter, who created the scholarship through the Juvenile Justice Program of Louisiana. That program is holding the money for Beard.
