Les Gemmes Report Banner Club Year
 

Under the dynamic leadership of Gemme Dedra Jordan. the Norfolk Les Gemmes have had a banner club year. The chapter has successfully accomplished many activities in support of the National Program theme, “Moving up the Hearty Scale”. Members worked extremely hard to provide STAR Service in the Hampton Roads Virginia community.
  The Social Committee initiated and coordinated several social and cultural activities. A Celestial Celebration was held at the Residence Inn. Awards were given to members who made special accomplishments in promoting The HEARTY Scale: Health, Education, Arts, Reactivate, Technology and Youth.
   The Star Reading Program was held at Poplar Hall Elementary School. It recognized students K-6 for reading excellence.
  This year’s scholarship recipient is a student at James Madison University. Feminine products were collected and donated to the YWCA for the Women in Crisis Project. Suits, accessories and jewelry were donated to the Dress for Success project. Members served as greeters and personal shoppers at the 2008 Prom Fair at the Attucks Theater.

   Members submitted records of their spending in the month of December in support of African American businesses. Records were received from 18 out of 27 members that totaled $6,000.
  Les Gemmes and their guests boarded a bus to Atlantic City, N.J. for four days. On April 3-6, 2008, members attended the 19th Biennial Conclave in Virginia Beach hosted by the
Chesapeake Chapter.
  Four new members were inducted into the chapter in December. They were Margaret Pettiford, Angela Freeman, Constance James and Christi Johnson. Other members are
Gemmes Jean Alexander, Melvine Blakeley, Theresa Carballo, Patricia Darden, Louise Epps, Rosemary Fonville, Patti Freeman, Mona Gunn, Frances Hill, Katie Hines, Phyllis Jackson, Ophelia Joyner, Mildred Lambert, Vicky Nellum, Jacqueline Rasberry, Clarice Sharp; Corrine Smith, Patricia White, Maude Williams, Etta Parham, Hope Parham and Delores Wilson.
