Pell Grant May Increase

DIVERSE EDUCATION—Needy college students who rely on Pell Grants could receive $69 to $169 more in 2009, as education spending bills move through Congress.
Legislation calls for raising the Pell limit to either $4,800 next year, or $4,900.
“We would have liked to see more increases, but we appreciate the levels recommended so far,” said Angela People, legislative director for the United States Student Association.
But the upcoming presidential election is putting many congressional spending bills on hold, observers say. Spending packages for hot button issues and education will probably have to wait until after the election.
