Portsmouth Museums To Host Nigerian Events
The sights, sounds and holiday flavors of West Africa will be presented for all to experience Saturday, December 27, when “The Heartbeat of Nigeria” takes over the “Winter Wonderland” celebration at Portsmouth’s Courthouse Galleries at 420 High Street and the Children’s Museum of Virginia at 221 High Street in Olde Towne.
From 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., the Children’s Museum and the Nigerian Women’s Association of Hampton Roads will offer traditional Nigerian music and dance, along with videos of one of the country’s largest Christmas celebrations, the Cross River State Carnival. In addition, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Children’s Museum, free samples of Nigerian food will be offered. Crafts will be offered at the Courthouse Galleries.
The Ibo, Houssa and Yoruba ethnic groups of Nigeria will be represented. “Heartbeat of Nigeria ” is one of a series of “Winter Wonderland” weekend events highlighting holiday traditions throughout the world.
