Portsmouth Pan Hellenic Council’s Book Buddies

   Several years ago, the Portsmouth Pan Hellenic Council adopted Hodges Manor Elementary School.  Today, members have been serving as Book Buddies for the past six months.  Book Buddies is a one-on-one tutoring program that serves first and fifth graders. Children receive 60 minutes tutoring sessions twice each week.  Tutors follow a lesson plan designed to develop children’s reading, writing, spelling, and mathematics skills.  The lessons are individualized to meet each child’s needs. 
    Shirley Brown and Iva Foust, representatives of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., have been tutoring in the areas of reading and mathematics.
