Ruby Dee Will Be Special Guest At UL Awards Dinner
 
      Legendary actress, author and activist Ruby Dee will be the special guest at the Urban League of Hampton Roads’ 18th Annual Whitney M. Young Awards Dinner, on April 25, 2008, starting at 6 p.m. The dinner will be held at the Renaissance Portsmouth, 425 Water Street. 
      Dubbed “The Best is Yet to Come,” the Urban League of Hampton Roads is celebrating its 30th anniversary.  Urban League President and CEO Edith White said, “Having someone as prominent and accomplished as Ms. Dee share in the 30th anniversary celebration is significant and humbling.
     “We are honored that Ms. Dee has agreed to join us at this year’s dinner.  Her talent, pioneering efforts in the movie industry, civil rights activism, and literary contributions are world renown,” said White.

   “In this 30th year of our existence, we are proud to celebrate the legacy of Whitney M. Young, Jr.  Having a legend like Ms. Dee join us for this event is icing on the cake,” said Junius Williams, Whitney M. Young Dinner Committee Chairperson. 
     “Moreover, we are pleased to recognize those individuals in our own community who have worked to preserve and enhance the influence, humanity, philanthropy and service embodied by Whitney Young,” said Williams.
