Red wine may be the fountain of youth, or something like that according to a new study which examined resveratrol, an ingredient found in some red wines.
Some scientists are already taking resveratrol in capsule form, after a study on mice showed that resveratrol made them run twice as far around the treadmill before collapsing.
“The upside is so huge that if we are right, the company that dominates the sirtuin space could dominate the pharmaceutical industry and change medicine,” said Dr. David Sinclair of the Harvard Medical School, a co-founder of Sirtris.
The company plans to start clinical trials on resveratrol soon. The point is to see if the agent can be used to treat degenerative disease, like cancer and Alzheimer’s.
