Author To Teach On Self-Publishing Books At Newsome House

 

     From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5, Nathan Richardson, poet and owner of Spiritual Concepts Publishing, will host a workshop on self-publishing at The Newsome House Museum & Cultural Center in Newport News.
   Unpublished writers will gain important information on the publishing process, copyrights, editing and useful marketing tools. This is also an excellent course for the first time author trying to breathe life into a book of limited success. Mr. Richardson is a highly acclaimed poet and the publisher of two books. ‘‘The Likeness of Being’’ and the newly released “You Are The Subject”. Registration is required, and the cost is $35. Lunch is included in the cost of the workshop.
   At the turn of the 20th century, the J. Thomas Newsome family moved to Newport News. In this industrial city, he established a law practice and prospered as part of the postwar South’s new urban, black middle class. Newsome (1869-1942). His elegant Queen Anne residence served as the hub of the local black community from which he led the fight for social justice within the commonwealth.
   Today, this restored 1899 Victorian landmark is devoted to the expression of black cultural and historical themes. Admission to the house is free, but a $2 donation is suggested.
