Mothers Raising Sons Group Urges Support For National Day of Prayer

Virginia will host a unique event associated with the 57th Annual National Day of Prayer set aside to bring believers and supporters together in prayer to uplift the nation and the world. This year’s observance is on May 1, under the theme “Prayer! America’s Strength and Shield”.
Locally, Mothers Raising Sons ( ) has issued a plea to mothers of young men, specifically, to join in this heartwarming positive event by praying for the future of their sons.
A special time of prayer for all youth will be held at Grove Baptist Church on  5910 W. Norfolk Rd, in Portsmouth from 12-2 p.m. as part of the observance. Interested persons unable to attend are asked to pause for prayer between 12 and 2 p.m. wherever they are.

Mothers  Raising Sons (MRS1) is an outreach and advocacy group of the Virginia Male Adolescent Network that provides support to single mothers of male children.
Members and supporters are concerned about gang violence, disparity in criminal justice system, low graduation rates, and generally how young men will navigate the minefield of blocked opportunities that plague black youth, all children in crisis. The group of mothers is concerned about how to raise well adjusted and not angry, frustrated young men.
